After John F. Kennedy's assassination, America finds itself mourning his death, with his legacy as president unresolved. The following presidential election becomes increasingly defined by the very issues Kennedy pushed to the forefront, such as civil rights and domestic policy.
Lyndon Johnson, Kennedy's successor, runs on passing sweeping liberal legislation in his honor. He is challenged by Barry Goldwater, a Senator from Arizona who has won the Republican nomination on a conservative platform, directly challenging Johnson on many fronts. Johnson is the resounding favorite, while Goldwater has to defend himself from charges of extremism.
